Activities in Eidsfoss
🏭 The Aluminum Museum
We started our visit at The Aluminum Museum. Here we learned how aluminum is made, and we got to see products in all sorts of shapes. The children thought it was cool to discover that so much of what we use in everyday life actually has a history that starts in industry. For the adults, it was a great mix of technology, craftsmanship and history.
🏡 Old Eidsfoss Inn
The next stop was Old Eidsfoss Innsurrounded by buildings that take us right back to the 18th century. It almost felt like traveling in time and we could vividly imagine what it was like to live here hundreds of years ago. The architecture and atmosphere made this a cozy break.
🛍️ Visiting the "piers"
One of the most charming experiences was to visit molene, small shops selling locally produced goods. Here we found hand-knitted sweaters, wool products and nice, unique souvenirs. The children chose small gifts, while we adults enjoyed the feeling of shopping for something very special and locally produced.
⚒️ The ironworks in Eidsfoss
We ended the day at The ironworks in Eidsfoss, an impressive cultural monument from the 18th and 19th centuries. The beautiful iron stoves with artistic details made a big impression, and we discovered several objects that reminded us of old kitchens and workshops from our grandparents' time.
