Here are a few things you can do in Kautokeino with your family
🏛️ RiddoDuottar Museum
The first stop was RiddoDuottar Museumwhere we got to experience a piece of the past. Here we could see Sami clothes, old tools, buildings and many exciting objects. The children found it fascinating to learn how people lived in the past - and we adults were impressed by how well everything was preserved.
💧 Pikefossen
One of the most relaxing moments of the trip was at the Spike waterfall. The view was gorgeous and we packed a picnic basket to enjoy at the water's edge. The sound of the waterfall and the surrounding silence made it a perfect place to relax together.
🌲 Kautokeino nature trail
To use up some energy, we took a trip to the Kautokeino nature trail. The trail was easy to walk for the whole family, and along the way we were able to enjoy the beautiful nature that stretched out around us. We even met some birds and small animals that the children found very exciting.
💍 Juhls Silver Gallery
A visit to Juhls Silver Gallery gave us a completely different experience. Here we could see beautiful jewelry, glass products and art. The gallery has existed for over 50 years and it was inspiring to see how tradition meets modern art. Of course, we had to buy ourselves a little souvenir!
🧑🤝🧑 Meeting with the Sami indigenous population
One of the highlights was visiting the Sami indigenous population. We learned about traditional food, clothing and activities - and the children got to try some themselves. It was a unique experience that gave us a deeper understanding of Sami culture and history.
✨ Summary
Kautokeino with the family? Kautokeino surprised us with its combination of culture, history and nature. This is truly a destination for the whole family - both educational and relaxing at the same time.
